Shalom and welcome to Sinai Temple!
Sinai Temple is a Reform congregation that belongs to the Union for Reform Judaism, formerly the UAHC. It is the only synagogue in Champaign-Urbana, and a key center of Jewish life in the twin cities. Although Sinai ascribes to the tenets of Reform Judaism, its membership is composed of a variety of types of Jews: Reform, Conservative, traditional, secular, and cultural. One of the strengths of Sinai Temple is the way in which these many different types of Jews join together to create a "Temple family."
Sinai Temple directs its energies on the basis of three important principles of the synagogue: house of study, house of worship, and house of assembly. It not only serves the religious needs of the Jewish community, but it also provides a setting for many of the Jewish social and cultural activities that occur in Champaign-Urbana. Sinai Temple provides a worship community and an educational center for its members, as well as for all the Jews of Champaign-Urbana. In addition to regular worship services, Sinai furnishes excellent educational opportunities, and provides the location for our extensive program of artistic, cultural, and social events. Sinai often joins with the following organizations to bring to our community many important Jewish scholars, artists, politicians, speakers, and performers: B'nai B'rith, Champaign-Urbana Jewish Federation, Hillel Foundation at the University of Illiniois, and the Committee on Jewish Culture and Society. For further information regarding Sinai Temple, phone the office at (217) 352-8140, and ask to talk to Rabbi Norman Klein or the Membership Committee chairperson. Or, send an e-mail to Sinai Temple. |
