Sinai Temple is dedicated to the principle of Tikkun Olam, repairing the world through acts of social justice. Some of our projects are ongoing; others are once-a-year opportunities. We invite you to participate in the activities that you find most meaningful.
Each year during the High Holidays, we collect non-perishable food and/or donations to support the Eastern Illinois Foodbank. In recent years, we have collected more than 500 pounds of food and over $5,000 in donations for this important cause.
For Thanksgiving, we provide baskets of food for needy families in our community, so that they may celebrate the holiday in a festive manner.
For Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Temple helps to raise money for a local scholarship given annually in Dr. King’s memory. The generosity of Temple members helps us to make a sizable contribution toward this scholarship each year.
Approximately once a year, Sinai Temple gathers for Mitzvah Day, an opportunity for us to work collectively for the betterment of our communities. In the past we’ve partnered with organizations such as Crisis Nursery, Habitat for Humanity, the Eastern Illinois Food Bank, and many others to help promote the missions of these organizations and engage in deeds of social justice.
